There are many benefits to exercise, and improving mental health and wellbeing is just one. By taking part in a physical challenge and pushing yourself to achieve something extraordinary, you can also help many children, young people and adults with learning disabilities and mental ill health to do something they otherwise may not – play tennis! Fundraising for Bright Ideas for Tennis will help us to help more people get active on the courts.
There are many organised events out there, The Ultra Challenge series, being just one. There are events across the country, with most allowing you to choose between walking, jogging or running anywhere between 25km and 100km. Clare, our fundraising manager recently took part in a 50k Ultra. It certainly both a physical and mental test, she recalls;
“At my lowest I wanted to give up and was ready to call it quits, but I remembered that friends and family had sponsored me and I did not want to have to tell them I had not completed what I set out to do. I also knew that the funds I was raising would help others less fortunate than me. I was fit, healthy and able to complete it. I may have been tired and in a little pain, but it was temporary, so I had a little word with myself and ran across the finish line, and what a feeling that was. I would absolutely recommend these events, the people you meet along the way keep you going – a truly wonderful experience.”
If 25km+ is a leap too far, why not sign up for a 5km, or if cycling is more your thing, a cycling challenge. It doesn’t have to be an organised event either, you can do whatever you like. We are here to support you.
