Bright Ideas for Tennis Champions  – Anstey Gynsill Tennis Club x West Gate School

I Play 30 sessions at Anstey Gynsill Tennis Club have been a real success with the pupils from West Gate School, so much so that they are going to continue to host sessions throughout the summer. The sessions are aimed at children and young people with learning difficulties, social anxiety and autism.

West Gate School is a city special school in Leicester which caters for a wide range of special needs, for 4 – 19 year olds. Over 70% of pupils have communication and interaction needs.

Nuh, an I Play 30 participant, has social anxiety, severe asthma and autism. Nuh has continued to play tennis outside his school sessions and is now having a weekly 30 minute private session with I Play 30 Coach, Harry Lester. Nuh has improved his tennis skills and has progressed to rallying from the baseline with much better control.

Coach Harry is finding the sessions really beneficial and enjoys being part of I Play 30. He told us that “The I Play 30 sessions have been a breath of fresh air in my coaching journey. The volunteers at Anstey Gynsill Tennis Club are loving it too.”

Nuh’s parents told us that “Nuh absolutely adores his I Play 30 tennis lessons and practises at home, sometimes in the kitchen!”

Great job by all the volunteers, coaches and teachers – the teamwork you are all demonstrating is very special and making all the difference to these young players!
